PROJECT KALIKA

A healthy learning environment is not a luxury.

It is a foundation for keeping kids in school.

When this happens everything becomes possible.

Donate to Kalika

Kalika Basic School in Tatopani, Jumla serves rural communities, with most students from the Dalit community, and plays a vital role in local education. Currently, 110 students and their teachers share a single, damaged toilet, with no functional water access and unsafe drinking water practices, creating serious risks to health, dignity, and daily learning and highlighting the urgent need for improved sanitation and clean water systems.

What we have accomplished so far.

Broken squat pans needed replacement.

Water for drinking was kept in an open bin.

Students had no reliable way to wash their hands.

We installed new squat pans so students can safely use the toilet.

New pipes were installed directly from the local water spring so students now have access to clean water.

Taps and handwashing station were fixed so students can now wash their hands everyday.

Phase 2 —Begins February 2026

  • Construct a biosand filtration system for sustainable, clean drinking water.

  • Continue with a community-wide WASH educational initiative.

  • Explore building more toilets for a growing school population.

PHASE 2 PROPOSAL

Voice’s from Kalika school.

If we don’t have a proper water system, a good toilet is useless.

— Laxmi Karki, Teacher
We get our water from a dust bin, and it may cause health issues because its dirty.

— Samikshya Kath Yat, Grade 5
Instead of using the toilet at school, I just go home, we feel shy because we share a toilet with the girls.
— Avinash Dangi, Grade 5
